Ca' Macana is running this charity project for Gaslini Ospital

The Istituto Giannina Gaslini is a public children's hospital and research institute of national and international renown. It hosts facilities and staff of the University of Genoa under a formal agreement.
The activities of the Istituto include health care, research, teaching, education and training of the hospital staff. Research activity is a strategic objective of the Istituto and is mainly aimed at translating research results into the clinical practice.
By statute, the Istituto Gaslini also provides technical and operational support in the field of health care research and continuing education of hospital staff in compliance with the objectives established by the National Health Service and contributes to the implementation of the objectives of the Regione Liguria concerning hospital planning.
The Istituto Gaslini is therefore a multidisciplinary, highly specialized reference centre with regional, national and international catchment area. It has a unique Emergency Department with regional catchment area and it provides specialized care to patients from Liguria region and highly specialized care for patients from all the other Italian regions.
The presence at Gaslini of all pediatric medical and surgical specialties makes the Istituto a reference centre for the treatment of neonatal, pediatric and adolescent complex diseases requiring highly specialized care.

Major fields of activity include the following:

  • Pediatrics and pediatric specialties, mainly including rheumatology and chronic inflammatory diseases, genetic metabolic disorders, nephrology and hemodialysis, pneumology and allergology, endocrinology and diabetology, gastroenterology
  • Hematology, study of hemostasis diseases, oncology and bone marrow transplantation; care of immunodepressed patients
  • Surgery and surgical specialties, mainly including orthopedics, neurosurgery, neonatal and oncologic surgery, urology; diagnosis and treatment of complex congenital heart disease; diagnostic and interventional cardiology
  • Obstetrics, neonatal intensive care; protected neonatal transport
  • Study of mental retardation, epilepsies, myopathies and neuromuscular diseases
  • Emergency medicine; neonatal and pediatric intensive and subintensive care
Outreach work aimed at the Mediterranean and East European countries, in line with the founder's inspiring principles, represents an irremissible strategic objective.
Research is essential to clinical excellence: good research and good care are an inseparable pair. At Gaslini, research is primarily translational: its main aim is the short-medium term application of new knowledge to the clinical practice. However, basic research remains an important aspect at Gaslini, mainly in those fields where world-famous leading researchers have been recruited. The Institute is strongly determined to educate and train excellent researchers in qualified Laboratories and to guarantee the constant professional growth and qualification of its staff to keep pace with technical-scientific advances. The Gaslini is organizing its services according to quality standards in order to provide health care tailored to the individual needs of pediatric patients.
According to this approach, quality management is integrated with the other systems of management, cost control, personnel management, control of amount and type of services offered.
